To apply, please e-mail Recruitment@loganair.co.uk with your CV and an outline as to why you believe you could be Loganair’s next Chief Operations Officer.

The closing date is Thursday, 28 March 2024.

The Chief Operations Officer leads a team of over 500 professionals responsible for the consistent and successful delivery of Loganair’s operating plans.  This covers a broad range of scheduled, contract, cargo, and charter flights to be delivered in accordance with our over-arching priorities of safety and regulatory compliance, followed by on-time performance.

The role has budgetary responsibility for over £65 million of annual spending across major contracts, ground equipment, employment, and training for our pilots, cabin crew, operations and in-house ground handling teams.

This is a senior role that forms part of Loganair’s leadership team, with a high level of visibility across the airline, providing dependable leadership, direction, and guidance for colleagues at all levels and deputising for the chief executive where appropriate.

The COO is a critical leadership figure, a role model, and someone who exudes passion, energy, focus, and rigour in everything they do,  coupled with empathy and humanity. The ideal candidate will be able to, either immediately or at some point in the future, become the airline's Accountable Manager.

    Responsibilities

The COO will be at the front and centre of Loganair’s business, where we operate 38 aircraft on over 80 routes across the UK and Europe.   Alongside ensuring that the journeys of over 1.6 million Loganair passengers each year are completed, you’ll also have accountability for the delivery of our contract operations, which can span from dedicated mail flights for a critical customer to ad-hoc charters for Premiership football teams.

    • This starts with our Operations Planning function, which manages our crew establishment planning, rostering and tactical aircraft disposition to deliver the commercial schedule in liaison with other teams, such as Commercial and Engineering.
    • Working with our Director of Operations, the 24/7 Operations and Crewing team is then responsible for on-the-day delivery of the schedule and responding to all events as they arise – whether that be unserviceable aircraft through to air traffic control system failures or volcanic ash outbreaks – to ensure our customers reach their destinations safely and as close to schedule as practicable.
    • In Flight Operations, the Director of Flight Operations leads a team of c. 280 pilots and 140 cabin crew.   Flight Operations also plays a crucial role in liaison with our regulator, the UK CAA.  Ensuring this area is correctly manned to fly the schedule, including timely recruitment and delivery of robust and compliant training within budget to equip our aircrew for life at Loganair fully.
    • Leadership and motivation of the team are integral to the success of the COO, and through regular communication channels, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that critical messages – whether good or bad – reach the team cohesively and quickly.   You will also be the senior liaison point in our relationships with recognised trade unions – BALPA for pilots and UNITE for cabin crew.
    • A specialist team in Flight Operations looks after all aspects of our aircraft performance, ranging from take-off limitations on short runways through liaison with air traffic control providers to obtain more efficient routings for our flights to assessing windfarm planning applications near airports as to whether they may impinge on the payload capacity of Loganair aircraft.
    • Working with our Head of Airports, you’ll be accountable for all of our ground handling contracts with external suppliers. Loganair conducts its ground handling at seven stations in Scotland, where the Head of Airports leads the team of c. 110 ground staff across these locations.  The activity also includes third-party handling, such as for offshore helicopter flights at Sumburgh.
    • Working with our Safety and Quality Compliance Team, safety is at the forefront of everything we do; you’ll have a crucial role in promoting and assuring the safety culture in Loganair, including ensuring that you uphold our Just Culture principles at all times.   You’ll chair the Operations Safety Action Group and be a member of Loganair’s Safety Review Board, attend routine Leadership Team meetings, and chair divisional meetings in your area.
    • The ideal candidate will be ready to operate at the leadership team level immediately and able to interact at the board and shareholder levels confidently.
