INTRODUCTION

The Flight Training Manager (FTM) has the authority to exercise administrative and supervisory control of the flight operations ground/flight instructor staff. The FTM will have the authority to suspend from duty personnel assigned to them until the Director of Operations or VP of Operations can make a formal review.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide leadership and oversight for all company flight training activities as specified in the Flight Operations Training Manual, applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and Operations Manual; coordinate instructor assignments with crew scheduling; coordinate and conduct periodic meetings with instructor staff to assure standardization; develop and implement instructional programs to improve the effectiveness of the program’s training staff.
  2. Supervise the Training Coordinators, Courseware Developers, and instructors, participate in the selection and qualification of flight and ground instructors. Provide an adequate amount of training, checking and periodic audits of the instructors to assure a high level of competency, standardization, compliance, and safety in the performance of assigned duties.
  3. Provide aircraft line operation training and checking expertise in ground school, aircraft, and simulators; conduct necessary training to flight operations staff; evaluate additional training and/or checking options for pilots demonstrating substandard performance or failure to qualify in allotted time; ensure training documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  4. Liaison with the FAA POI for notification of training and the scheduling of FAA observed training.
  5. Ensure compliance of all regulations, directives and operations specifications which are concerned with, relative to, or have effect on flight training activities of the Company; ensure the Flight Operations Training Manual, Company Flight Manual or Pilot Operating Handbooks are current, complete, operationally correct and consistent with company standard operating procedures.
  6. Responsible for ensuring that the appropriate pilot training documentation is accurately completed and forwarded to the Pilot Records Department in a timely manner.
  7. Report unsatisfactory performance of a pilot in training to the DO and the CP. The DO, CP, and/or FTM will consult on how to proceed in such cases.
  8. Ensure that the required audits are performed on training centers and that the training centers and their instructor/checkairmen are meeting the requirements of Empire’s Flight Operations Training Manual.
  9. Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be qualified to conduct ground and flight training in assigned aircraft type(s). Current ATP with previous experience sufficient to comply with the FAR Part of current operations.  Related college degree preferred. Must have knowledge/experience in evaluating organizational operations as they relate to policies, goals and objectives. Must have excellent communications skills, both oral and written, have a valid driver’s license. Maintain U.S. Passport.  Preferred qualifications included current CFI, ATR, and/or C208 aircraft experience, type rated in ATR, experience as instructor in a Part 135 or 121 operation; aviation safety program experience. Must adhere to the Company’s FAA/DOT required Drug and Alcohol Program.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an office environment, outdoors and in an aircraft.  Will be exposed to inclement weather Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending and stooping for extended periods of time.  May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.  Requires manual dexterity, speaking, seeing and hearing to conduct business.  Empire Airlines is a Drug, Alcohol and Smoke-Free Workplace
